The Quality Engineer will work closely with internal and external manufacturers, managing strategic relationships while focusing on technical needs and project logistics. Responsibilities include defining and implementing project-specific Quality Assurance plans, with projects involving particle accelerators, optics, magnetic systems, cryogenics, and vacuum systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and implement a Quality Assurance Program for a large-scale DOE project, ensuring consistent QA adherence.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to establish QA workflows, documentation requirements, change controls, and performance criteria for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Inspect products, analyze testing data, identify non-conformances, and lead corrective actions.
  • Document and share Lessons Learned/Best Practices with the project.
  • Assess QA/QC performance of subsystems and provide regular status reports.
  • Support vendor management, oversee their QA program, and address vendor discrepancies or equipment issues.
  • Attend project meetings, coordinate manufacturing procurements, operations, shipping, and subcontractors as needed.
  • May perform engineering design and data analysis as part of QA activities.

What is Required:

  • B.S. in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 3+ years in technical quality assurance.
  • Expertise in QMS and implementing QA requirements in manufacturing and scientific environments.
  • Skilled in developing and executing QA/QC plans for specific components or production lines.
  • Strong engineering judgment in developing and overseeing quality engineering processes.
  • Experienced in working with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers, especially in complex systems like particle accelerators, optics, X-ray, magnetic, cryogenic, and vacuum systems.
  • Proficient in designing methods for quality inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in interpreting mechanical/electrical drawings and developing project scope and logistics estimates.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance on routine tasks.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related fields.
  • Professional Quality Assurance Certification (ASQ or similar).

Salary:

This position is expected to pay a targeted range of $106,000.00 to $129,000.00 annually and has a full salary range of $94,164.00 to $158,856.00 annually. The final salary is dependent upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • This position is subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct, are currently being investigated for misconduct, left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct, or have filed an appeal with a previous employer.
