Custodian (Floor Crew)
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring a Custodian (Floor Crew) within the Facilities division. You are responsible for maintaining premises and work areas in a clean and orderly manner and perform most assignments under direct supervision with instructions as to the results expected. You will determine methods, procedures, equipment and material, best suited for the operation to be performed.

You will:
Strip, wax, and polish floors using buffing, scrubbing, polishing, and pressure-washing equipment.
Clean walls, ceilings, windows, moldings, doors, blinds, carpets, and upholstery.
Follow all DOE, LBNL, and applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
Use required PPE and steel-toe safety shoes at all times.
Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise; report hazards to supervisors or appropriate departments.
Follow Integrated Safety Management System (ISM) procedures and attend required safety meetings and training.
Maintain daily logs, equipment records, Activity Manager training requirements, and weekly LETS timesheets on time.
Arrive on time daily and follow directions from managers, supervisors, and work leads.
Keep work and storage areas clean, organized, and stocked; complete assigned daily schedules.
Report safety concerns and communicate changes to work routines or absences promptly.
Follow LBNL cell phone, attendance, stewardship values, and all Lab policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities as needed:
Perform cleaning and custodial duties in an assigned area, including but not limited to:
Sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain restrooms, showers, and washrooms, including replenishing supplies.
Empty and clean waste receptacles and dispose of trash.
Dust, clean, and polish furniture, woodwork, chalkboards, ventilators, and equipment.
Clean ductwork and pipe, clean air diffuser.
Performs special cleaning projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Demonstrated related - qualifications acquired either in a formal apprenticeship or directly-related vocational training or equivalent work experience. (minimum 6 months)
Ability to communicate (read, write, speak) in English in writing, orally, over the telephone with Supervisor, work leads, peers, and customers regarding work assignments/safety issues. Ability to follow oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to read and comply with posted safety warnings.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to promote customer relations through partnering with customers and colleagues.
Ability to climb stairs, work at heights; work in confined spaces, around rotating equipment, under fluorescent lights; able to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, have manual dexterity in both hands; lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted to chest height and carry object up to 100 feet up/down stairs. Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
Experience working as part of a team in a diverse work environment within all levels of the organization.
Ability to make sound decisions using problem solving and analysis skills necessary for the role and scope of work performed.
Desired skills/knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to use computers and applicable software effectively for record keeping and communication is desirable.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, preferred.
Additional information:
Appointment type: This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid), eligible for overtime pay.
Hours for this position are 3pm - 11:30pm
Salary range: $22.50 - $34.20/hourly depending on the step you will be hired at.

Relocation: This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
Work authorization: Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
