Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Engineering Division is hiring a Mechanical CAD Administrator 2. This role supports a broad user base by managing Mechanical CAD applications, ensuring software compatibility, and maintaining component libraries in PLM systems. The position involves solving diverse technical challenges, supporting CAD workflows from design to production, and maintaining the complex infrastructure behind CAD and data management systems.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Provide advanced end-user support for CAD applications and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Independently manage software installations, templates, and custom symbols.
  • Help develop design standards, user guides, and procedures for consistent documentation.
  • Recommend and implement software improvements to boost efficiency and accuracy.
  • Automate engineering workflows using scripts and tools.
  • Train staff on CAD software use.
  • Address IT challenges related to managing a large CAD infrastructure.
  • Tackle diverse problems requiring data analysis and sound judgment.

 

Additional Responsibilities as Needed:

  • Collaborate with the CAD team to streamline and customize the PLM experience.
  • Manage servers within a virtualized infrastructure.
  • Integrate third-party applications and optimize data storage in PLM systems.
  • Support standards, QA documentation, and template parameterization.
  • Drive automation and process improvements to boost efficiency.

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience, Master’s with 3+ years, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in Creo Parametric and 3D mechanical modeling, especially large assemblies.
  • Skilled in supporting CAD end users and developing CAD tools and applications.
  • Experienced in PLM application upgrades, part library management, and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Strong communication skills and sound judgment in problem-solving.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in multiple CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD).
  • Experienced in PLM systems, including upgrades, workflow development, and managing electrical documents.
  • Knowledge of Requirements Management solutions.
  • Skilled in server and service management for high availability.

 

Notes:

  • This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • The expected salary for this position is $97,000.00 - $119,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $86,628.00 - $146,196.00 annually depending upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days per week onsite - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
