Mechanical Engineer - Vendor Management and Procurement

What You Will Do:
- Support monitoring of major procurements for vendor and project team performance using JIRA, providing regular updates to the project technical procurement coordinator.
- Maintain and enhance the database, creating dashboards and reports to communicate procurement status and issues.
- Analyze moderate-scope problems by reviewing various factors.
- Meet regularly with internal and external teams to update procurement progress, address issues, ensure compliance with best practices, and identify lessons learned.
- Under the guidance of the technical procurement lead, create templates and guidance documents for vendor management activities.
- Facilitate the rollout of vendor management best practices and assist technical teams in meeting new requirements.
- Coordinate the sharing of vendor management templates and expectations among technical teams.
- Document and share lessons learned with management and technical teams.
- Organize and attend meetings with external vendors, providing technical oversight and coordinating with LBNL teams to resolve issues.
- Attend project meetings as needed, and potentially coordinate specific manufacturing procurements, onsite operations, shipping/receiving, and external subcontractors.
What is Required:
Quality Assurance Engineer Level 2:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience as a technical procurement coordinator or equivalent experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes for equipment like particle accelerators, optics, X-ray systems, magnetic systems, cryogenic systems, and vacuum systems.
- Ability to design and implement methods for inspecting, testing, and evaluating quality standards.
- Good judgment within established procedures to determine appropriate actions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong meeting facilitation and organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting assembly, detail, and weldment drawings.
Quality Assurance Engineer Level 3, in Addition to the Above:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience as a technical procurement coordinator or equivalent experience.
Salary:
Quality Assurance Engineer Level 2:
This position is expected to pay a targeted range of $89,000.00 to $108,000.00 annually and has a full salary range of $78,768.00 to $132,924.00 annually. The final salary is dependent upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
Quality Assurance Engineer Level 3:
This position is expected to pay a targeted range of $107,000.00 to $130,000.00 annually and has a full salary range of $94,6566.00 to $159,756.00 annually. The final salary is dependent upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

- This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
