Berkeley Lab's Facilities Division is hiring a Procurement & Inventory Specialist. This role supports the division by managing procurement and inventory processes. Responsibilities include overseeing procurement from initiation to delivery, maintaining inventory control systems, and ensuring compliance with procedures. 

 

What You Will Do:

Purchasing and Order Fulfillment:

  • Monitor and coordinate departmental procurement activities.
  • Identify and specify tools and parts for tasks and projects.
  • Process purchase requisitions into orders for the procurement department.
  • Use procurement methods aligned with Laboratory policies, including requisitions, procurement cards, and eBuy.
  • Track orders and expedite deliveries as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide procurement support to the Work Planning and Control team.
  • Ensure accurate processing in FMS and Maximo systems.
  • Assist with sourcing and evaluating parts and tools based on quotes, quality, and availability.

Receiving:

  • Verify that received shipments match purchase orders, inspect goods for damage or defects, and report issues to the manager.
  • Ensure all goods meet company quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain and update the materials tracking system daily to ensure accurate data.

Reporting, Coordination, and Communication:

  • Report on closed work orders and their impact on open material status to the supervisor.
  • Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Address shipment status, discrepancies, and returns with suppliers.
  • Coordinate with logistics providers for timely and efficient delivery.
  • Work with the procurement team to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with finance, production, and logistics to align procurement with business objectives.

Inventory:

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through regular counts and audits.
  • Organize and store received goods in designated areas.
  • Support inventory control with cycle counts and reconciliation of discrepancies.

 

What is Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in procurement, inventory management, or supply chain management.
  • Proven experience with inventory control systems.
  • Skilled in vendor management, including order placement, shipment verification, and issue resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating suppliers and inventory.
  • Expertise in identifying and specifying tools and parts for tasks.
  • Proficient in sourcing and evaluating parts based on quotes, quality, and availability.
  • Ability to detect and verify damage, defects, and discrepancies in items.
  • High attention to detail for shipment verification and inventory accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills for adhering to processes and systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication for collaboration.
  • Skilled in identifying issues and developing solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Maximo, and Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of procurement and inventory management regulations and compliance.
  • Experience with process improvement and a commitment to professional development.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in facilities management or a related industry.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.

 

Notes:

  • This is a full-time 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • This is a Non-Exempt role, eligible for overtime pay.  
  • The Procurement & Inventory Specialist position is expected to pay $42.00 - $48.00 per hour, which fits within the full hourly range of $33.02 - $55.76 per hour for the job classification of MN1.2.
  • Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group.
  • It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience.

  • Work will be primarily performed at: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
