Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Building Technology Urban Systems Division has an opening for a Building Efficiency Research Program Manager (PM) to join the team.

In this exciting role, you will coordinate the planning efforts for research programs of moderate scope and size, related to energy management and information systems (EMIS) and commercial building decarbonization. You will manage programs that engage impactful actions to address climate change within the commercial buildings industry. You will prepare and coordinate program scheduling and budgeting. Working with other PM staff, you will formulate and recommend corrective actions, such as schedule revisions, funding allocations, and staffing levels. You will lead development/update of subcontractors’ scopes of work. You will develop program status reports and presentations. Role will involve support for project-related outreach activities and maintenance of project-related resources. 

This role supports the management of a technical assistance program for commercial building portfolio owners as they develop comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions reduction plans. The work will include supporting research staff in developing emissions reduction guidance and tools, supporting the efforts of a cohort of technical assistance managers (TAMs), and managing webinar and workshop development processes. 

This role also supports the EMIS team overall in managing research on building data analytics tools and advanced controls. This will include coordination of webinars, newsletters, developing and maintaining program tracking tools, facilitating project meetings, and supporting the creation of reports and other deliverables.

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinate the planning efforts for programs of limited to moderate scope and size.
  • Prepare and coordinate program scheduling and budgeting.
  • Working with other program staff, PM2 will formulate and recommend corrective actions, such as schedule revisions, funding allocations, and staffing levels.
  • Develop program status reports and presentations.
  • Lead development/update of subcontractors’ scopes of work.
  • Support project-related outreach activities and maintenance of project-related resource.
  • Manage communication processes and reporting systems within a large technical assistance team across multiple organizations.
  • Coordinate development of technical reports, case studies, and guidance resources.
  • Interact with program team leader and members. Participates in program review meetings with sponsors and advisory committees. Interacts closely with PI and program lead. Has internal and some external contacts.

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • Conduct spreadsheet analysis and charting of project-related data.
  • Contribute to development and editing of technical documentation.
  • May oversee the work of support staff and subcontractors.

What is Required:

  • 5-8 years experience in program administration and planning or equivalent combination. 
  • Experience with software systems, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Management, Google Suite, and various calendar and email systems.
  • Experience with commercial building energy efficiency programs and/or energy management & information systems (EMIS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Familiar with common PM software packages.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and computer-based applications/tools needed for program management.
  • Professional concepts in program/ initiative planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in projects’ scope, as dictated by principal investigator (PI) or team lead based on evolving project funder requirements and in-progress research findings.
  • Ability to manage projects within a matrixed environment, with support of PI or team lead.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience managing research projects or programs.
  • Skill in organizing in-person and remote engagement with experts, stakeholders, technology vendors.
  • Familiarity with website editing software.
  • Ability to write technical content for general audiences.

Notes:

  • This is a full time, 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • The full salary range for this position is $109,248.00 - $184,356.00. The budgeted salary range that the Lab reasonably expects to pay for this position is $129,720.60 -$143,375.40. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, and certifications, and also aligned with the internal peer group.

  • Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
