Join Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Information Technology Division and be part of a world-class team dedicated to advancing open science. As the IT Communications Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping and executing communication strategies essential to IT's success.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading internal outreach efforts such as newsletters, website content, events, and training.
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive communication campaigns aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Managing and enhancing Lab-facing documentation and IT service catalog.
  • Creating outreach and training materials, including specialized content for different audiences.
  • Monitoring major vendor releases and prioritizing based on laboratory needs.
  • Developing and executing long-term communication plans to promote IT services effectively.

 

What is Required:

Program Manager Level 2:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, public relations, English, or communications or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years in some combination of working in organizational communications, public relations, and/or internal communications, or an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Experience with various media channels, positioning messages according to the distinct needs of each constituency, and ensuring that messages are accurate, polished and of a quality and tone consistent with the company’s leadership and culture. Effectively leverage social media.
  • Extensive experience developing written communication products, ideally related to technology, IT, science, or research.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and understand senior leaders and subject matter experts and gain collaborative support for communication strategies, plans, and products.
  • Experience in researching issues and developing clear, concise messages that explain an issue and the intended strategic direction, and articulating its impacts. 
  • Experience developing and managing internal communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and succinctly for a variety of audiences. 
  • Experience in coordinating and executing live events, such as town halls and employee meetings.
  • Track record of working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Track record of working well under pressure, during tight deadlines, with tact and professionalism.
  •  Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience working in an environment that acknowledges and encourages diversity and inclusion. 
  • Access to a knowledge base of best-in-class trends, tools, approaches, resources, and peers through professional society engagement and professional networks.
  • Effective time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize work assignments, work collaboratively with others, and adjust schedules based on changing requirements.

Program Manager Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, public relations, English, or communications or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years in some combination of working in organizational communications, public relations, and/or internal communications, or an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Advanced skills in engaging with and managing a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, external partners, and media representatives.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence at a high level, ensuring alignment of communication strategies with organizational objectives. 
  • Familiarity with advanced communication technologies and analytics tools. Ability to leverage data in optimizing communication strategies.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Additional certifications in Digital Marketing, Strategic Communications, or Advanced Public Relations.
  • Experience in leadership roles or managing complex communication projects.
  • Background in technology, IT, or scientific research.

 

The Program Manager 2 position is expected to pay $122,916.00-$150,216.00 annually, which fits within the full salary range of $109,248.00-$184,356.00. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.

 

The Program Manager 3 position is expected to pay $148,860.00-$181,944.00 annually, which fits within the full salary range of $132,312.00-$223,296.00. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.

 

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
